Prospective Evaluation of the Innervated First Dorsal Metacarpal Artery Island Flap for Reconstruction of Defects of the Thumb and First Web Space
International Journal of Scientific Research — Volume 7, Issue 11, November 2018 (ISSN No. 2277-8179 | IF: 4.758 | IC Value: 93.98)
A prospective study evaluating the innervated first dorsal metacarpal artery island flap as a reconstructive option for defects of the thumb and first web space.
Overview
Reconstruction of soft-tissue defects of the thumb and first web space requires flaps that restore both coverage and sensation, given the functional importance of this region of the hand.
This prospective study evaluated the innervated first dorsal metacarpal artery island flap, assessing flap viability, functional outcomes and sensory recovery following reconstruction.
The findings support the flap as a reliable reconstructive option for thumb and first web space defects.
